About Renee Rowe
I believe art is necessary for the soul.
I started out painting abstract works, loving the abstract experssionists. As a young adult I had the good fortune to study with Roy Lichtenstein who was teaching at Douglass College, at Rutgers University. After moving to NYC, I painted at the Art Students League. For many years I explored contemporary abstract expressionism.
In Denver, Colorado I painted with Mel Carter, Jan Bass, Kim English and Mark Daily among others. Influenced by the artists around me, I became interested in impressionistic painting and began doing figurative works and landscapes with an eye towards abstract composition. For several years I managed and owned art galleries, painting all the while.
It has never been my wish to create a duplication of what I see. Recently I have come full circle. I find making abstract works incredibly exciting. With abstraction, I have freedom to explore and express my internal intuitive feellngs with textures, shapes and color. The pleasure is in the process, and the results are often surprising. If what I paint also pleases others, it is an added gift.
I love a quote attributed to Danny Kaye: \"Life is a great big canvas. Throw all the paint you can on it.\" For me, celebrating art and life are inseparable.
One place where you can find my art is at Art on South Main, a Southern Colorado artist coop with 37 members that I helped start this past year
